Be Positive
How To Be Positive in Difficult Times
Life is difficult. We believe, falsely, that we can change that. Once we accept that life indeed is difficult, we can then begin to make it less painful…not less difficult. Accept that life is full of difficulty and choose your own strategy to decrease the pain whether it is religion, faith system, or way of life. Life IS DIFFICULT, we just need to find ways to deal with it.
Covert your problems into challenges that will inspire creativity, grit and toughness in you. No one said life would be easy and if it were always easy, it would be boring and no one would appreciate it. So try to put a new spin on problems and see them for what they are: puzzles to be chiseled at and worked through.
Stop feeling sorry for yourself. People who go around complaining about life are really wanting attention hoping somebody will take care of their responsibilities. Life can be difficult and cruel and unfair, but every time you’re feeling sorry for yourself , COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS and consider how fortunate you really are compared to the millions who have less than what you have, and are worse off than you. Don’t get lost in self-pity.
Resist the urge to act out your moods on those around you. Instead do something creative or constructive that relieves your mood. Something you feel comfortable doing and that others don’t have the right to criticize. : write a diary, confide in a friend, draw you troubles, etc. Get physically active, take a walk, hit the gym, go for a run, whatever. Listen to upbeat music or music that is calming, like jazz or classical music. Or listen to music with positive messages and words. Take time to listen to a motivational speaker or read a book with a motivational theme message. Watch movies based on true stories that show the main character overcoming difficult times and situations.
You have the ability to change your outlook and your situation, but only if you go out and DO IT! Don’t just stand still and drown in self pity – GO OUT and give it a try!it a try. Simply get up and do it. Stop complaining, turn off that TV and get going!
When you look good, you feel good. When you are drowning in self pity you tend to neglect your body and looks. Get a makeover or put on your best outfit and do something fun and exciting. You’ll be surprised how a spruce up in your wardrobe and appearance can generate a positive attitude.
Help others. Help out in whatever interests you, whether it’s rescuing an animal from the street or serving food to the homeless. You will find great solace in knowing that YOU CAN HELP others who are worse off than you.
Count your blessings: Be thankful for what you do have. Take stock of everything you have, whether it’s your family, your pet, your health or a beautiful day outside. Usually when one thing is not going well, another is going very well, so you can always find something to be thankful for. Think about how awe-inspiring some things in your life are. Just being alive is a gift to enjoy. Write down 5 things you’re thankful for and focus on them
A positive attitude is a great way to weather tough times. But it takes an enormous amount of time, effort, and commitment to be mindful of your thoughts and actions when times are difficult and life has dealt you a raw deal
Keep things in perspective. Recognize that people have triumphed through unimaginable difficulties throughout history, so you can too. Define yourself by your character, not what you have or don’t have. Learn all you can about others who triumphed over adversity. Look to great leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. or Abraham Lincoln, as well as the many unnamed people in history who endured slavery, genocide, war and poverty, and still lived to tell about it. The fact that people have survived so much is a testament to the power of the human spirit. Remember them in hard times and you will prevail.
Avoid negative people: It’s natural to feel anger, jealousy, and resentment when you’re stuck in a less than fortunate situation. However, when you get in bad situations and tough times, avoid being around negative people or miserable people who can only end up making you feel worse and who can fuel your anger, jealousy, resentment and misery
You have it in you: Although things may be looking bad, look inside yourself and cull out the angry, resentful, or jealous thoughts and focus on how to deal with the situation. Instead of focusing on the problem or difficulty look for the solution that will overcome the problem.
Focus on your skills and visualize yourself doing what needs to be done. Look in the mirror and tell yourself “Although this is a tough time, I am a survivor, I am strong, I will get through this, I will get past this situation in my life.” Take it one step at a time, one day at time.
Surround yourself with positive people: It’s always good to be around uplifting family and friends for support. If you don’t have family and friends around, join support groups in order to keep a positive attitude. Use spiritual guidance or look to a higher power or your religion for guidance in helping to keep a positive outlook. Understand that every one has some sad times. Don’t feel bad if you can’t be positive at all times. Using Yoga or meditation helps.
